Art Pondo Saxophone Ensemble
Art Pondo Saxophone Ensemble was founded in 2017 by saxophone students from the National Taipei University of the Arts. It is committed to expanding the performance boundaries of saxophone chamber music. The orchestra actively collaborates with Taiwan's top saxophone soloists and gradually establishes a unique musical style through annual ticketed concert tours. With classical music as its foundation, Yibendao continues to evolve, actively attempts cross-disciplinary cooperation, and pays attention to the dialogue between music and contemporary social issues.


Redefining the new vision of saxophone music
SaxOpera pioneered the opera x saxophone theatrical performance and reinterpreted Taiwanese classics from the 1980s and 1990s, presenting a Taiwanese sound that blends nostalgia with innovation.

Music and Environmental Awareness
Telling stories through music, focusing on environmental sustainability, and combining music and images through "That Day in the Future" to tell the beauty and scars of Taiwan's oceans.

Meet the Musicians

Chi-Chun Chen
Chi-Chun Chen is a Taiwanese saxophonist, conductor, and arranger, currently studying Orchestral Conducting at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under Ed Spanjaard, Antony Hermus, Bas Wiegers, and Karel Deseure. He previously earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in saxophone at the same institution, graduating Cum Laude. During his saxophone studies with Arno Bornkamp, he inherited the renowned Dutch Saxophone School tradition—a strong foundation that has brought him international recognition.
Chi-Chun has led the CvA Sax Ensemble and Art Pondo Saxophone Ensemble, performing across Europe and Asia. As a conductor, he has also participated in the Berlin Conducting Masterclass, receiving guidance from Lior Shambadal. His accolades include First Prize at the Asia Saxophone Competition, Third Prize at the Chieri International Music Competition, and the Best Emerging Young Performer Award at the 5th Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition.
Beyond performance and conducting, Chi-Chun actively explores cross-disciplinary productions and arrangements, blending saxophone music with theatre, visual art, and contemporary narratives. Notable arrangements include Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde and Philip Glass’s Mishima.
As Artistic Director of Art Pondo, Chi-Chun is dedicated to expanding the potential of saxophone chamber music through innovative collaborations and new dialogues between music and social issues. In 2025, he will lead Art Pondo at the World Saxophone Congress, presenting the ensemble’s original interdisciplinary work “Another Sky”, marking the first international showcase of this Taiwanese creation.

Li-Hsien Peng

Associate Director / Saxophonist
Li-Hsien Peng holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the Taipei National University of the Arts. He previously studied at National Hsinchu Senior High School and Pei-Ying Junior High School. Beginning his musical journey with the piano at age five, Li-Hsien later switched to the saxophone during middle school, studying with Yu-Hao Huang, Wen-Chun Chang, Chia-Hsiu Tsai, and Pin-Hua Chen. He has also received guidance from Rui Ozawa and Philippe Geiss through masterclasses.
During his studies, Li-Hsien actively participated in wind ensembles, jazz big bands, and contemporary music ensembles, while also engaging in interdisciplinary productions that broadened his artistic scope. In 2023, he joined the TNUA New Music Ensemble for a collaborative performance at Seoul National University, and took part in the cross-disciplinary production Artificial Galaxy, a creative fusion of sound and visual art co-produced by TNUA’s Music Department and New Media Department.

Bing-Jun Shih

Born in Changhua, Taiwan, Bing-Chun Shih graduated from the Taipei National University of the Arts, where he studied saxophone under Chia-Hsiu Tsai. In 2022, he also studied as an exchange student at the Kyoto City University of Arts in Japan, under the guidance of Sadahito Kurematsu and Nobuya Sugawa.
Beyond his work as a saxophonist, Bing-Chun actively explores photography, composition, translation, and literary writing, blending music with visual and performance art. His creative works often reflect on philosophy, politics, and social issues, forging a unique and thought-provoking artistic voice.

Chang-Han Huang
Chang-Han Huang
Saxophonist
Chang-Han Huang holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Taipei National University of the Arts and a Master’s degree from the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, where he studied with Chia-Hsiu Tsai and Lars Niederstrasser.
During his studies in the Netherlands, Chang-Han actively participated in chamber music and contemporary music projects, collaborating with ensembles and composers across disciplines. He has performed works by Korean composer Seung-Won Oh, and in September 2024, he will perform with Ensemble Oeknal at the renowned Gaudeamus Festival in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
While pursuing his undergraduate degree, Chang-Han won First Prize in the Chamber Music Category at the university’s Guandu New Voice Competition, and frequently took part in interdisciplinary productions, expanding his artistic vision beyond conventional performance.
Chang-Han is currently a member of Mit Saxophone Quartet, Art Pondo Saxophone Ensemble, and the online creative platform Weekly Sax. In addition to performing, he teaches at the Tamkang Senior High School Music Department, where he shares his passion for saxophone with the next generation.

Ming-Chi Lu

Saxophonist
Ming-Chi Lu, a saxophonist from Zhongli, Taiwan, began his musical journey under the guidance of Yi-Lun Chen. He holds a Master’s degree in Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion Performance from the Taipei National University of the Arts, where he studied with Pin-Hua Chen, Po-Yuan Ku, Chia-Hsiu Tsai, and Chih-Huan Wu.
Ming-Chi currently serves as Acting Principal Saxophonist of the Formosa Melody Wind Orchestra and is a core member of the Art Pondo Saxophone Ensemble. As a versatile performer, he has appeared as a concerto soloist with several ensembles, including the Formosa Melody Wind Orchestra, Xindian High School Orchestra, Taipei Youth Wind Orchestra, and the China Youth Corps YSB Wind Orchestra, showcasing his strong capabilities as both a soloist and ensemble player.
In addition to his performing career, Ming-Chi is also dedicated to music education, serving as a saxophone instructor for numerous school wind bands, nurturing the next generation of young musicians in Taiwan’s vibrant band scene.

Jen-Hong Wu

Born in Yilan, Taiwan, and raised in Taipei, Jen-Hong Wu began playing the saxophone at the age of nine. After entering the Taipei National University of the Arts in 2018, he continued his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he is currently pursuing his Master’s degree under Arno Bornkamp and Willem van Merwijk.
Jen-Hong has received multiple awards, including First Prize at the New Star Soloist Competition and First Prize at Taiwan’s National Student Music Competition. He also achieved outstanding results at the Chiayi International Band Festival & Asia Saxophone Competition and the Asia Pacific Saxophone Competition.
As a member of the Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet, he won First Prize at the Vitor Santos International Saxophone Competition and the Reate International Contemporary Music Competition in Italy. The quartet also claimed First Prize and the Audience Award at the Kamermuziek Concours Gelre in the Netherlands. Additionally, Jen-Hong was awarded the Yamaha Music Europe Foundation Scholarship and was named one of the Top 10 finalists at the Josip Nochta International Saxophone Competition.
In 2023, Jen-Hong and Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet released their debut album, “Intersection.” In 2025–2026, the quartet will embark on a 14-concert tour across the Netherlands as finalists of Dutch Classical Talent, with performances at leading venues such as Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ (Amsterdam), De Doelen (Rotterdam), and TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht).

Yu-Shiang Wang
Saxophonist
Yu-Hsiang Wang is a Taiwanese saxophonist who graduated in 2020 from the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris, earning his Diplôme d'Études Musicales (D.E.M.) in saxophone performance and music education. During his studies in France, he trained under Christian Wirth, principal saxophonist of the Garde Républicaine Wind Orchestra, as well as Yann Lemarie and Chiharu Lemarie, both musicians of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. He also received guidance from Dr. Po-Yuan Ku and Dr. Chih-Huan Wu, establishing a strong technical foundation and deep musical understanding.
Since returning to Taiwan, Yu-Hsiang has been actively involved in saxophone education and is passionate about promoting the appreciation of contemporary music and the diversity of stage performance art. Through interdisciplinary collaborations and innovative concert formats, he aims to introduce wider audiences to the unique charm of saxophone music.
As a performer, Yu-Hsiang was a semifinalist at the 2017 Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition, one of the most prestigious events for saxophonists. In 2019, he won First Prize in the Parisien Saxophone Competition (Soloist Category). From 2020 to 2024, he presented solo recitals at leading venues across Taiwan, including the Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, National Taichung Theater, and National Recital Hall in Taipei, showcasing both his artistic excellence and stylistic versatility.
Beyond his solo career, Yu-Hsiang was a member of Art Pondo Saxophone Ensemble, an official ensemble of Taoyuan City. He currently serves as principal saxophonist of the Kaohsiung Wind Orchestra, remaining an active and influential voice in Taiwan’s music scene.
